 DO YOU REMEMBER CAMP CHIMO?
I do! My grand father was the first person to start the camp and my dad took it over when his father passed on. I have always enjoyed the times at camp chimo ever since i was a little girl of 2 years old. If you have anything to add to this thread, please feel free to do so. I would love to hear from anyone who's been there or even visited the camp at all...

I've never been there, but on Saturday night I watched some slides from the 50 to the 70's on Lake Temagami and quite a few of Camp Chimo. My friend's dad ran it for a while about 25? yrs ago. |

alscool - thanks for posting the link, however that link is now for a sold video. The best way to find the film is simply by looking under search for the key word "temagami". This way you will see the film almost anytime as I usually sell 2 -3 per week and there are usually no more than 10 different items each week under Ebay, i.e. postcards, books, etc so it is easy to find the film. The film is only 11 minutes long, but does show some nice pictures from over 50 years ago of Camp Chimo and the surrounding area. |

I visited Camp Chimo on four occasions between 1946 and 1959 with my uncle, Bill Beckman. My uncle had stayed and fished out of Chimo several times previous to my first trip there. He was a good friend of Dennis LaRounde (sp?)who was our guide on my first trip. I remember meeting three of Dennis' children--Betty, Vincent and Ivy. I have fond memories of Camp Chimo and Lake Temagami despite having lost a 40 pound lake trout (estimated by Dennis) on my first try at age eleven, and what was probably the world's record smallmouth on a subsequent visit when our guide Pete Commanda let the whopper bang against the canoe (we were on a portage to Lake Chee Chee. Anybody out there relate to what I'm saying? |
