Hi guys,

I have done a few larger trips in the Temagami backcountry over the last couple of years. Made it into Florence Lake for the first time this past August, an incredible place. I have a real interest in getting into the lakes that are west of Florence that make up the head waters of the Yorston River. I poked around a bit where the portage into Airplane is listed on Jeffs Map and I was able to find a semblance of a trail so it definitely looks possible. Was wondering if anyone had been up that way before? I found one other thread from a number of years back but the person never mentioned whether they ever got the trip done. Any information would be amazing!

Actually, any information would be terrible! People who go in that area understand not to talk about it too much. There's no 'route guide'. That's what makes it special. Existing maps showing portages contain inaccuracies. It's a place for people who want to use 'portage logic' to find the way (Nastawgan) instead of following a map from sign to sign. If you go that way allow way more time than you think you'll need. Travel will be slower than normal and potential camping spots scarce. Some portages don't really exist; they're bushwacks with difficult-to-locate takeouts. Helps keep it remote feeling. And when you get back pls stay quiet about it so others can enjoy the same kind of experience. :-)

Doublebend,

I do agree, thats the reason I was attracted to the area. Just wasn't sure of the viability of a trip into the area. I'll take your comment to mean a trip is possible, which is great news. Thanks for the info, I'll make sure to keep the secret!

I'd also be interested in travelling through this area, also because I would be finding my own way instead of following signs. But if anyone has been through here it would be nice to know what the scenery is like? Is it worth it? Lol. I'm assuming it's never been logged? Is it old growth forest? Are the lakes nice? Etc.
