The section from Iceland Lake east to Rabbit Lake, via Herridge Creek, and Lowell, Upper Twin, Lower Twin, Lebel, and Reuben Lakes has been restored by the Municipality of Temagami Backcountry Canoe Route Maintenance Program. This has effectively reopened a 3-5 day loop beginning and ending in the town of Temagami. Hap Wilson's book identifies this as Route 8. The Breeze Lake canoe route, restored last summer by the Nastawgan Network and saved from logging in the Riddell Township area, is a "scenic variation" of the main route. By keeping my ear to the ground with MYCCR and local outfitters, I figure that about 5-10 trips have gone through the Breeze Lake route this summer, most of them doing it as part of the larger Route 8. Comments have been unanimously positive about the beauty and overall quality of the route. And I still haven't made it out yet this summer.
