PROBABLY KEEWAYDIN'S MOST RUGGED TRIP

8-Week Route: Devil's Island - Trout Streams - Lady Evelyn River - Smoothwater Lake - East Montreal River - West Montreal River - Pigeon portages to Grassy River - Mattagami River - Moose Factory - Abitibi River - Lake Abitibi - Upper Ottawa River - Grand Lake Victoria Post - Kipawa Lake - Matabitchuan River - Lake Temagami

They carried eight weeks of gear over the Trout Streams to Smoothwater! On their return, when they reached the Upper Ottawa, they did not head south to Temagami, but went east to Grand Lake Victoria, before heading home to Keewaydin!

There would have only been minor outfitting at a few posts. The guide, Pete Stanger, a native from north Temiskaming, did not return to Keewaydin, finding work their too harsh. It is doubtful this route was attempted again in a single season.
