LINER NOTES:

We started at the headwaters of Pipestone and headed downstream for several days, doing a lot of lining in the beginning, and as the river got bigger, a little whitewater. The fishing was pretty good and we ate plenty of walleye along this stretch. On July 10 we encountered a forest fire and, at one point, it was raining ashes.

We visited the settlement at Wunnummin Lake. As we neared the end of the lake, the wind picked up and we had between two- and four-foot waves. A day later we were at Summer Beaver. We had the usual baseball game and they beat us.

From Summer Beaver we hopped on the Winisk River. After three long days on the Winisk we arrived at Webequie. At this point in the trip the temperature dropped to between 40 and 50 F during the day and went even colder at night. We had several days of these frigid temperatures. After a re-outfit at Lansdowne House, we continued down the Marten Drinking River (which is very beautiful). We got off the Marten on day 30 and did a height-of-land portage to the Albany River. We were on the Albany for two days, then portaged to the Opichuan River. We finished the trip by waking up at 4 am on Lake Kagianagami. We finished our trip with success and all were proud of our various accomplishments.
