The Belle was lost in 1944..as it was being pulled out of the water for winter storage, the fir and poplar crip beneath the structure collapsed with her weight, and the Belle broke her back, after 36 years of service |

Sure wish I remembered exactly where the boats were. My impression is they were on the west side of Hwy 11. They weren't all that close to town, though. A few miles south. Have glanced along there the past several years and have not seen anything. |

I know where the Belle was pulled ashore, we used to play there as kids. West of Leisure Island house boats about 200 yards from their main dock on the north shore. It is completely grown over now though. |

No, I believe it was towed out into the lake and burned. The bottom there is very muddy. The cribs referred to above where still on the shore. I don't recall seeing anything on the ground that would have belonged to the boat itself. I also remember a large wooden former TBL vessel that sat on a trailer in Herbert Browns front yard for years, Herbert was a long time TBL employee. I often wonder what ever happened to that boat, what a shame. |

Thanks Brian, yes Hubert Brown and he did drive the Ojibway, I remember a ride in it, he took me and his son to their cottage in the north arm about 1967. |

The "Vedette" is another example of a boat being shipped north from the Muskoka Lakes,like the Ramona and Naiad.(see Ramona photo thread),however the circumstances of the Vedette were a little different. The other boats were used for private purposes, whereas during its time in Muskoka, the Vedette was used as a water taxi or chartered for special trips or tours of the lakes. |

ramonafan, are you in contact with jack humphrey then? I'm curious because a couple of years back he had the ultimate in web pages on Temagami, the people, the ONBL boats, old school photos , and so on. Do you suppose that website might ever be resurrected? I was so sorry to see it go!

Purser, I just spoke to Jack yesterday. He is not talking about resurrecting it. He did put it all on a CD. I am not sure if they are available anymore. |

If you talk to Jack in the near future, and he's favourable to passing on his great collection, I'd appreciate it. I would not expect this to be gratis of course. |
