Couple days ago we brushed out the old portage between Bonesteel and Wessel Lakes.
The true portage is actually on the east side of the creek. We used to go that way 20, 30, 40 years ago. It is shorter and far less rugged. The takeout is better on the west side, but that’s all it has to offer. In the old dais we’d sometimes have lunch on the west, then cross over to the east to carry.
Only one blue flagging tape there, but the old trail is now clear and easy to follow. Hoping you will update you online map. It is the most accurate available, and the one we see most people using these days.

Never knew there had been one on the other side. How long is the new portage? |

Did not measure it, but it would be safe to say 100.
The one on the west side had expanded to twice the old length. |
