I just (July 2023) returned from a trip which ended at the Twinkle Lake Access point and I wanted to advise the Ottertooth community that the access point has moved and is not consistent with the Ottertooth or Jeff's maps.

The access point is now at a logging road which crosses the 200m portage between Ames creek and Twinkle Lake. The road crosses the portage about 50m before the Twinkle Lake side landing. The road appears to be new and is in excellent condition.

The access point on the maps (east side of Twinkle Lake) is nothing but ATV trails and is not (easily) accessible by car.

Thank you,

Thank you for this update. We are heading up there on Saturday and canoeing from twinkle lake to seagram and up to Selkirk. Then back to twinkle via Pinetorch. When were you up there and what were water levels like if you don't mind me asking.

We were there last week (July 17-21). Our trip started at Paul Lake (Gervis Landing) then through Hamlow, south to Solace, east to Bluesuker then south to Seagram and into Twinkle.

We were traveling down river for the most part and the water levels were average.

The 720m portage from Maggie into Bill will be very uphill going east to west.

The campsite on the Northern Island on Solace is very good.

let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for the info! I do have a few questions. How were the bugs? Do you see any issues with going upstream in the Yorston River? What was Selkirk Lake like? Worried it won't be worth all the portaging just to spend 1 night on Selkirk. So many options in that area! We are also thinking of heading up into Florence and then to Pinetorch through Aimes Creek. If anyone has any info on water levels for Aimes Creek between Florence and Pine it would be appreciated!

1. Bugs were moderate but tolerable
2. No issues with going upstream on the Yorston, we used all the portages except for one (using Ottertooth map), you may have to wade/line one or two sections.
3.We didn't go to Selkrik, we came from the North into Solace. Like I said Solace was a beautiful lake
4. Can no comment on your other route options. Water was fine on Ames creek between twinkle and linger

Here's coordinates on a parking area near the Ames portage reported by edalgorf:

And here's a road map in this area (from someone else's post, probably FOT):

Note, there is no "parking area" but rather just an intersection of the logging road and the portage. You could probably find somewhere on the logging road to leave your car.

Also, it is not easy to see the portage sign from the road.

Depends on one's expectations. Considering the area we are discussing, namely dead-end road on crown land that rarely sees any traffic, I'd certainly nominate a flat firm clearing safely by the side of the road and big enough for 3-4, may be 5 cars as a parking. It's just about 70 meters down the road from the portage crossing and even if you miss it you can use as a referance a bridge crossing Ames creek about 150-200m down the road, which bridge was blocked as of 2022.

I'd emphasize that the last 45km of the road, i.e. after Grassy River bridge, see very little traffic except may be for few ATVs, and even ATVs rarely venture further than Lower Goose Falls. I'd happened to give assistance to a driver that had spent a night and better part of the day in his car that broke some 15-20km south of Twinkle. Drive safely!

Thanks for all the info! I was a bit nervous about the access point, so I appreciate the photo and coordinates!
