Hi everyone, Looking for some comments/sanity check on the following route I’m trying to pull together for this summer. Details: - 5-day /4-night trip - Mid-July - 6 guys (2 large-ish tents) mostly single carry Route: Put-in: Montreal River (Lady Dufferin Lake) Day 1: Lady Dufferin, Smoothwater, Apex, Whitemud (camp) Day 2: SLER, Florence (camp) Day 3: SLER, NLER, Macpherson (camp) Day 4: Grays River, Makobe, Teagarden (Camp on lake north of Teagarden) Day 5: Elissa Creek and pull out on Gamble Questions: - Is this feasible in 5 days/ 4 nights, am I biting off more than I can chew? - Any insights on the campsites on Macpherson? I hear it’s a beautiful lake but how are the campsites? - Any experience with the Campsite north of Teagarden Lake? I read it was a nice site but if not my plan would be to push to Tretheway and then get to gable via weedland - I understand day 4 will be mostly through a burn area, have the portages been cleared lately? -Anything else worth noting? Any must-stay campsites I am looking over? Thanks for the invaluable help Evan

According to 2018 fire maps Teagarden site was most probably destroyed
Of course, almost 6 years have passed, but I haven't seen any reports of campsites in this area being restored. Portages could be rough. |

I have never done the LER from Whitemud to the Florence R, because this has always been called a spring-only route & I don’t do spring canoe trips (black flies). So, I think doing that in July could be pretty problematic. Having said that, it all depends on the year... we did the Makobe in August which you’re not supposed to do either, but there was a lot of rain that year. But you probably can’t count on it being easy and it could add a lot of time and energy.... By far the nicest campsite on MacPherson is the one at the extreme western end at the falls... but I think it’s small so you might have to toss a coin for that one. |
